Access acute care by visiting the Fort St. James Health Centre.

Monday thru Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

It is a “drop-in” clinic and patients are seen on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Call the clinic to inquire about the availability of virtual appointments, social worker appointments, access to the medical rehab program.

ACUTE CARE is for patients with acute medical care needs such as…

  • $insect bites, rashes, skin infections, cuts
  • $bladder infections
  • $respiratory tract infections
  • $acute sprains, strains, muscle and joint pain
  • $tonsillitis, fever, sore throat, ear aches
  • $persistent cough
  • $sexually transmitted diseases
  • $Depo-Provera injections
  • $Note: these are only a few examples

PRE-BOOKED APPOINTMENTS

The clinic offers patients both Pre-booked and Same-Day appointments with their Physician.

If you would like to book an appointment with a physician, please call or drop by the clinic and speak to our receptionists during office hours.

Patients requiring the following medical care should call the clinic for an appointment

  • $chronic or continuing health issues
  • $comprehensive assessments and physicals
  • $scheduled injections
  • $follow-up on lab work or procedures
  • $minor procedures (stitch removal etc.)
  • $non-urgent mental health matters

Nak’azdli Health Centre was built in 1996. Since then, they have experienced three renovations and expansions. A new health centre is in the planning stages as the present building does not meet staffing or community needs.  The Nak’azdli Health Centre delivers programs and care that empower Nak’azdli Whuten community members to be self-determined in managing their health and wellness. The Health Centre provides accessible services and honours the diverse groups of people it serves.

STUART LAKE HOSPITAL

Stuart Lake Hospital looks over beautiful Stuart Lake in Fort St James, B.C. It is 160 kms by road from Prince George and 65 kms north of Vanderhoof. The hospital sees patients from the town, regional areas and nearby Aboriginal communities.

A new hospital is currently under construction and expected to open in January 2025. The new hospital and health centre will replace the current outdated facility, the Stuart Lake Hospital, and combine primary, acute, and long-term care services in one location. It will have 27 beds, 18 of which will be for long-term care with nine for acute care. The hospital will also have an expanded emergency department with two treatment rooms, a trauma bay and an ambulance bay, as well as a larger laboratory and diagnostic imaging (X-ray) centre. It will also have palliative care space.

For patients suffering from serious medical problems…

Go to the Emergency Department or call 911 if you experience any of the following conditions…

Upon arrival, patients will be triaged by the Emergency room nurse.  The more serious health issues will be seen first, less serious issues may be asked to visit the Acute Care Clinic.

  • $trouble breathing, passing out, fainting
  • $severe chest pain or pressure, pain in the arm or jaw
  • $an unusual or a bad headache
  • $suddenly not able to speak, see, walk, move or experiencing confusion
  • $suddenly weak or drooping on one side of the body
  • $inhaled smoke or poisonous fumes
  • $heavy bleeding or deep wound
  • $possible broken bone, loss of movement
  • $coughing or throwing up blood
  • $acute pain anywhere on the body
  • $severe allergic reaction with trouble breathing, swelling, hives
  • $high fever with a headache and stiff neck
  • $poisoning or overdose of drugs or alcohol
  • $suicidal thoughts or an urgent mental health crisis
  • $seizures or an asthma attack

TL'AZT'EN COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES

The Tl’azt’en Community Health Centre provides a variety of health services to individuals and families in the community. Services are provided on a drop-in basis or by request for a home or school visit. Services include workshops, immunization clinics, case management, prenatal and post-natal care, wellness groups, diabetes care, and health promotion.
