A New Name for a New Hospital

Jun 18, 2025 | Community, Featured

A brand-new hospital for Fort St. James was just a dream back in 2018 when the Primary Care Society hosted a dinner with Premier John Horgan to help advocate for a new hospital for our community. On May 23, 2025 Minister of Health Josie Osborne joined representatives from Nak’azdli Whut’en, the Stuart-Nechako Regional Hospital District, the District of Fort St. James, and the Primary Care Society for the official opening of our new state of the art hospital that is three times bigger and staffed with a larger workforce in a wider variety of healthcare positions. The Primary Care Society is pleased to have been involved in the project from its inception through to the grand opening and are excited to continue to advocate for patient care at the new state of the art facility and work to improve quality of life for individuals and communities. We continue to help with housing for healthcare workers, and we are currently working on a new project that will provide an online directory of all the programs and services available in our area. We continue to sit at the Northern Health recruitment table and have plans for the development of a regional recruitment strategy.
Nats’oojeh Hospital and Health Centre is the new name for the hospital and means “everyone healing” in Dakelh. The Primary Care Society is grateful for the new facility and thankful to all those involved in the process.
